The Primary objective of the Mentorship and Empowerment Program – MEP is to hone the High School graduate Girls from the Slums with capacity, skills, knowledge, relevant experience and value system to enable them achieve their God given potential and respective dreams.

The Girls on the program are between 18 to 21 years old and have been nominated from their respective former High Schools in the Slums based on poverty index, passion and commitment of the individual girls.

Majority of the girls living in the Slums have the capacity to realize their dreams yet the circumstances under which they live negates their potential. SYN through the MEP program gives them a chance and opportunity that otherwise would be elusive to a good number of them.

A baseline survey conducted by SYN three years ago found out that 32% to 69% of the Teen Girls from the Slums who graduated from High School either ended up married off, took up house help jobs or irregular manual jobs that would not pay them enough to break free from the poverty circle they were living in. These bleak findings informed the need and inception of the MEP program to reverse the trend.

MEP program has been extremely successful with over 98% of the Girls graduating as employees or employers. Many are saving towards a college education besides supporting their siblings through School.

SYN is envisioning the expansion of the MEP program to meet the current 411 Girls applicants and to achieve this, we need the partnership of individuals and organizations. For a gift of £53/$87/Ksh.7,550 you can sponsor a Girl to go through the 4 months of training that will set them for life and break the vicious circle of poverty.

Over the last 2 years, the MEP program has successfully trained over 112 High School graduates.
