Bringing Hope: Empowering Widows in Kibera

In Kibera, the communities we serve, it is traditionally the man’s responsibility to provide for the family. Most of these families survive on just $3 a day, which presents a significant challenge. The situation becomes even more dire when the breadwinner passes away, leaving the widow to learn to fend for and raise the family. This is especially challenging given the cultural and traditional contexts. The Widows for Widows program aims to holistically support and empower widows, transforming their lives so they can become self-reliant.

This week, by the grace of God and through the generosity of our partners and friends, we were privileged to provide mattresses, blankets, bedsheets, propane cooking stove, and food baskets to the neediest widows within the Kibera slums. It has been an incredibly emotional experience. The gifts were received with profound expressions of gratitude. “I will no longer have to suffer with smoke and take too long to cook,” said one beneficiary, while another expressed relief by saying, “We don’t have to share a tiny blanket anymore.” The beneficiaries were extremely grateful, feeling that this must be a blessing from God, especially since they may never meet those who made this possible.

Thank you for helping transform lives and bringing hope to those in need.
