Jitambue Purity Program
In Sub-Saharan Africa, 1 in 10 girls miss school during their menstrual cycle. JPP program aims to lessen these numbers by focusing on inculcating purity, self-worth and positive reproductive health to teens of ages 13 to 19 years. In Kenya, 2 in 3 girls lack access to health education and sanitary pads. 25% of girls drop out of school by the time they reach puberty and 40% of the teens have begun childbearing. These troubling statistics is the reason Jitambue Purity Program is committed to alleviate the challenges faced by teenage girls hindering their educational achievement.
With an aim of ensuring a higher retention of teen girls in school, JPP seeks to address the challenges and cultural practices that negatively impact the admission of teen girls. Through strategic partnerships powered by partners who are passionate about these issues, we are striving to give girls an equal chance to compete and lead a fulfilled life.
Through the JPP program Swahiba Networks advocates for policy changes towards greater protection of girls from violence and discrimination in school and at home. We involve men and boys as key players in acting as allies for girls’ rights by enhancing their capacity on the same issues.
JPP also partners with various schools where we have JPP clubs that deliver the much needed sanitary towels every month as well as have home visits with food baskets.
We also get to cater for new school uniforms, fees arrears, and medical care needed by those who have been abused both sexually and physically.
