The Jitambue Purity Program focuses on purity, self-worth and positive reproductive health.

Jitambue Purity Program

The JPP is a program targeting Teens in High Schools of ages 13 to 19 years predominantly from the slum. The core areas of focus include: Purity, Self-Worth and Positive Reproductive Health.

In too many societies in Kenya Teen Girls still face the double discrimination of being young and being female. They are pulled out of school, married early, and are more likely to be subjected to violence than the male counterpart.

Teen Girls also have less opportunity to be educated, are more at risk of gender-based violence, female genital mutilation and face greater risks of economic and sexual exploitation. These challenges and other cultural practices continue to negatively impact on admission and retention of Teen Girls in school.

The JPP seeks to address these challenges encountered by the girls in Kenya. Through our grant making efforts and by working with other partners who are passionate about these same issues. We are striving to give Teen Girls an equal chance to compete and lead a fulfilled life.

Swahiba Networks in collaboration with other partners have continued to increase the number of Teen Girls on the program to the current number of 800 High School going Teen Girls in the Slums of Kibera. While that may sound good, there are 3.5 Million Girls in Kenya in need of Sanitary Towels, however, the Chinese proverb says, ‘a journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step.” And indeed we have made a few steps towards, our journey.

Through JPP program SN advocates for policy changes towards greater protection of girls from violence and discrimination in school and at home. We involve men and boys as key players in acting as allies for girls’ rights by enhancing their capacity on the same issues.

The Teen Girls on the program through the JPP Clubs in their respective Schools receive the much needed Sanitary Towels every month, home visits with food baskets, New School Uniforms, help with fee arrears, medical care for those who have been abused both sexually and physically.

The need is vast as we still have 3741 short listed Teen Girls on the waiting list to join JPP program. For £10/$11/Ksh.1,100 a month you can partner with us add four more Teen Girl on to this life changing Program.
