Two schools in Budalangi, Bulemia Primary School and Bubango Primary School, have received much-needed support from the Tabasamu shoe distribution program, which kicked off on 16th September 2024. The program provided children with the innovative The Shoe That Grows, designed to protect them from diseases, harsh weather, and environmental challenges such as rough terrain, extreme temperatures, and exposure to water, mud and debris.
This initiative was met with overwhelming gratitude, as many children had previously been walking to and from school barefoot. In total, 1,526 pairs of shoes were distributed, offering hope for a healthier and brighter future for these young students.
Budalangi, frequently affected by flooding from Lake Victoria and the River Nzoia, faces significant challenges, particularly in poverty and education. The local economy relies on agriculture, fishing, and sand harvesting, but these labor-intensive activities often force children to work, contributing to dropout rates and affecting school attendance. Despite these obstacles, sustainable management of these economic activities holds the potential for poverty reduction and community growth. Improving educational infrastructure and offering financial support to students are essential to breaking the poverty cycle and improving Budalangi’s socio-economic outlook.
A big thank you to Because International for your partnership in making this possible! Together, we are creating healthier, happier lives for these students. 💙👟 #Tabasamu #ShoeThatGrows #EducationForAll #HopeForBudalangi #swahibanetworks
